Wichita Collegiate Football at Hoisington 9-9-16

The second week of the Football season brought a major matchup to Barton County.

Both the Wichita Collegiate Spartans and the Hoisington Cardinals made it to the Class 3A playoffs last year. Collegiate made it all the way to the State Title game, but fell to Rossville.

This year the Spartans moved up to Class 4A Division II. Hoisington remains in Class 3A. Before the season started, many people circled this game as both sides would come in highly ranked.

Each team featured a strong running game, which would come into play given the howling North wind blowing throughout the night. Both sides got on the board in the First Quarter. Then a see-saw battle took over until the Fourth Quarter when Hoisington pinned Collegiate deep in their half of the field and then took advantage of a shanked punt. The Cardinals went up by nine points and won the game 31 to 22.
