JTACs at Smoky Hills ANG Range Open House
One of the interesting displays at the 2011 Smoky Hills Air National Guard Range Open House was a group of JTACs showing how they work.
A JTAC team will go into an area and coordinate with friendly ground forces and support them by directing in bombs or cannon fire from aircraft or artillery.
Doing so can expose them to enemy fire also.
In the demonstration at the Open House, the JTACs reacted to taking fire. Some of their fellow members of the 284th Air Support Operations Squadron dressed up as enemy forces and simulated an attack.
Fortunately for the JTACs, they used a flight of four A-10s to send the unfriendlies running.
Here are some of the pics I took of the JTACs in action:

Very good pictures from a fun day for the 284th. As part of this team and member of the 284th, I appreciate your time to take these pictures. So many times we do stuff like this and never have anything to look back on. Thanks for being there.

You’re welcome.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to watch you work up close.
