Great Bend Girls Swimming Invitational 4-26-19

Nine teams of swimmers went to the pool in the Kirkman Center on the campus of Barton Community College for the Great Bend Girls Swimming Invitational.

Manhattan dominated the meet winning seven of the twelve events and taking first as a team. Newton took first in the other five events but finished third in the team competition twelve points behind host Great Bend.

Grapple on the Gridiron 6-29-18

During the summer, most people think of football and basketball teams doing camps and other activities. Wrestlers get to enjoy camps also.

Great Bend High School hosted one of the more unique camps in the state with the Grapple on the Gridiron. Coach Nathan Brockelman set up a camp where schools could bring teams to compete in a dual format.

Most of the matches would occur inside a gymnasium. One round instead took place on the football field under the stadium lights.

This event brought teams from Kansas schools like Labette County, Norton Community, Manhattan, Russell, Abilene, Liberal, Goddard Eisenhower, Wichita South, Rock Creek, and Pueblo West from Colorado.

The event provided the athletes with a great opportunity to put on the singlets and get some grappling in during the summer months.

Liberal Bee Jays vs Great Bend Batcats 7-8-17

A pleasant Saturday evening made the perfect time to enjoy some Jayhawk League baseball in town. The Liberal Bee Jays took on the Great Bend Batcats in the second game of their three game series.

The Batcats stormed out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. They added two more in the next inning. Liberal got on the board with a home run in the bottom of the fourth and added two more after loading the bases in the fifth inning.

Great Bend tacked on two insurance runs in their last at bat in the eight inning. They won the game with a score of 8 to 3.

Liberal Girls Soccer vs Great Bend 4-7-15

I shot my first soccer match in a couple of years this evening as the Liberal Lady Redskins visited the Great Bend Lady Panthers.

Great Bend dominated the game all the way through with #2 Keely Ireland scoring three goals. The Lady Panthers won the game with a score of 6 to 1.

Great Bend High School Boys Golf Invitational 4-29-13

With the weather finally acting its season, I took advantage of an afternoon off to go shoot the Great Bend High School Boys Golf Invitational.

This was the first time I’ve been on a golf course in several years. I spent most of the day following one foursome. Towards the end, I went and found a few other groups to take pictures of.

Liberal at Great Bend Softball 4-27-13

It goes without saying that this Spring has been a weird one. Well, we should really call it an extended Winter. Many schools postponed or even cancelled scheduled Spring Sport events due to snow falling or very cold and windy conditions.

One of those postponed events was a softball double-header between the Great Bend Lady Panthers and the visiting Liberal Lady Redskins. The games took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the softball diamond at Barton Community College.

The Great Bend Lady Panthers took control of both games early on and did not look back as they powered to two shutout victories with finals of 18-0 (3 innings) and 13-0.

These two games were my first time shooting softball since last Summer, and my first ever experience shooting it on the High School level. Let’s just say they move faster than the 10-12 year old girls I shot last summer.

One other note, I have not been able to properly identify many of the Great Bend Lady Panthers in the photos. If you can let me know who is in which photos, I will gladly correct my captions.
