Great Bend Airfest 2012

The City of Great Bend, Kansas hosted their bi-annual fly-in on September 22, 2012. This year the fly-in turned into a weekend long celebration and remembrance of World War II.

The Army Air Force built Great Bend’s Municipal Airport as a training base for B-29 crews getting ready to fly mission in the Pacific Theater. The long runways and taxi ways helped to give lots of space for the many planes that flew in for the morning.

Along with the General Aviation planes, three P-51D Mustangs made the trip along with a B-25 bomber.
