Rush County Fair Beef Show 8-3-18

After several months of feeding, caring, and working with their animals, the time had come for local 4-H’ers to exhibit their hard work at the 2018 Rush County Fair Beef Show.

These young men and women took the time and effort to make their cattle look the best for the judge. After showing off their animals, the competitors had to show themselves off in the showmanship contest.

Below are some of the pictures I took at the show:

2015 Rush County Fair 7-31-15

The end of July means one thing in Central Kansas, time for the Rush County Fair.

Once again I made my way to the fair on Friday for the annual Animal Shows.

Below are some of the photos I took of the 4-H members and their hard work in raising the animals on show.

An Evening with Jack Hanna 10-16-14

The Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo hosted An Evening with Jack Hanna to help raise money for the facility.

Jack Hanna is an Internationally recognized Zoo Keeper and Director Emeritus of the Cincinnati Zoo. He brought several animals from the Cincinnati Zoo and from the Tanganyika Wildlife Park near Wichita. Jack also showed several clips from his television series, Into the Wild.

After the main event, Mister Hanna also met with members of the Zoo Society and Sponsors for the evening at the Shafer Art Gallery.

KVGB Great Bend City Edition 10-15-14

I like to listen to AM 1590 KVGB in the mornings. The hosts of their early show, Patrick Burnett and Steve Webster promoted this week’s episode of the Great Bend City Edition show.

The reason for the promotion, one of them, Steve, would be the chew toy of the Great Bend Police Department’s K-9 Officer, Kia.

Since I work nearby, I arranged my schedule to be there in time to have my cameras ready. I did have to watch where I stood. One of the police officers warned me that if the dog saw me and not its real target, well I would become the new one. Given how fast on my feet I am not, I took that to heart.

Fortunately, Kia (pronounced with a silent A) found his proper target.

2014 Rush County Fair 4-H Animal Shows 8-1-14

The first day of the month of August brought many of Rush County’s youth out to show their animal projects in the 4-H Animal Show at the 2014 Rush County Fair.

The day started with the Hog Show. Then a Sheep and Goat Show finished out the morning. After lunch highly anticipated Beef Show got underway.

In all of the shows, the youth took part in both Showmanship and Market competitions. Showmanship tested how well they could display the animal and communicate their knowledge. The Market portion had the youth’s animals judged on their qualities to be sold or produce for a farm operation.
