Garden Plain versus Hoisington 11-15-19

In a meeting of two undefeated teams, the Hoisington Cardinals defeated the Garden Plain Owls by a score of 48 to 22.

Hoisington saw senior running back Wyatt Pedigo score five touchdowns while running for 245 yards. Quarterback Mason Haxton contributed two more touchdowns while covering almost 200 yards himself.

The Cardinals only threw one pass all game, and that was an incompletion.

Hoisington now moves on to the Sub-State game against Norton. They met the Bluejays in Week 8 and won 38-7.

Phillipsburg versus Hoisington 10-18-19

The Phillipsburg Panthers traveled to Hoisington for a Class 2A District 8 matchup.

Both teams came into the game familiar with each other. In the past two years, Phillipsburg ended the season for Hoisington in the playoffs.

This year, Hoisington entered the year with the #1 ranking in Class 2A.

The game started with a bang as the Cardinal’s Wyatt Pedigo took off on an 81-yard touchdown run.

Hoisington would add another touchdown before Phillipsburg scored their first.

Whenever the Panthers would tally a touchdown, Hoisington would immediately score another.

By the end of the game, Hoisington would have scored five touchdowns on plays of greater than 80 yards.

The Cardinals defeated the Panthers by a score of 56 to 28.

Plainville Boys Basketball vs Hoisington 2-5-19

The final game of the evening saw the Plainville Cardinals face off with the Hoisington Cardinals.

Hoisington scored the first points of the night. Plainville then took the lead thanks to some accurate three-point shooting. At one point they were 5 of 9 from behind the arc in just the first quarter. Hoisington worked hard to overcome the deficit and led at the end of the first quarter by four points.

The hosts never surrendered the lead. Plainville would try to mount a comeback, but Hoisington weathered those challenges and foul trouble to continue building on their lead.

At the final whistle, Hoisington won by a score of 70 to 53.

Pratt Football vs Hoisington 8-31-18

Week one of the high school football season saw two Central Kansas League teams square off as the Pratt Greenbacks traveled to face the Hoisington Cardinals.

Going into the game, the buzz was on Pratt’s #5 Travis Theis moving from running back to the quarterback for the team. An All-State rusher last year, many wondered how calling the plays would affect his stats. The answer, no change at all.

Theis recorded twelve rushes for a total of 204 yards and four touchdowns. He accounted for all but one of the Greenbacks touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, Pratt’s defense held Hoisington scoreless all night long. The final score was 34 to 0.

2018 Hoisington Winter Jam Boys Championship – Pratt Greenbacks vs Hoisington Cardinals 1-20-18

The last game of the 2018 Hoisington Winter Jam saw the Hoisington Cardinals host fellow Central Kansas League member the Pratt Greenbacks. This year marked Pratt’s first time in the tournament and the championship game. The Cardinals came into the night as back to back champions of the Winter Jam.

The game featured a back and forth nature almost like a boxing match. One team would gain a lead only to see the other side fight back and tie or take a small lead. Pratt took a one point advantage into the locker room at halftime.

In the fourth quarter, Hoisington took advantage of working the ball inside and some free throws to gain a lead. The Greenbacks tried to launch multiple three-point shots, but none would fall. The Cardinals won the game with a 47 to 41 score.

They now have won the Winter Jam for three consecutive years.
