4A Division II State Championship Hayden vs Pratt 11-26-16

For every Elven Man team in Kansas, they desire to play on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Playing on this day means they made it to the State Championship game.

This year, the Class 4A Division II Championship pitted the Hayden Wildcats of Topeka against the Pratt Greenbacks.

Hayden entered the game with an 8-4 record, but most of those losses came to teams in higher classifications. Pratt only recorded one loss on their way to the game, and that was from a very highly ranked Hoisington team.

The Wildcats won the coin toss and received the ball. Pratt’s defense immediately asserted their dominance and forced a three-and-out. Then the offense took over and scored their first touchdown easily.

Hayden would score two touchdowns on the day, but those could not compare to the onslaught from the Greenbacks. Pratt went on to win the game, and the State Championship, with a score of 48 to 14.

4A Division 1 State Football Championship – Bishop Miege vs Hayden 11-29-14

The final day of football for 2014 took me to Topeka for a matchup of two Catholic High Schools, Bishop Miege of Shawnee Mission and Hayden of Topeka, to decide the KSHSAA Class 4A Division I Championship.

Miege came in carrying a dominating record, but Hayden put up the first points on the board. The game was a back and forth affair. Bishop Miege took a two score lead in the second half and held on to win 42 to 35.

1A Division II Boys Championship: Otis-Bison versus Frankfort

The Otis-Bison Cougars faced off against the Frankfort Wildcats for a second time this year at a neutral site. The first time it was in football at Salina. This time it was basketball in Hays for the State Championship.

Like many of Otis-Bison’s recent games, this was a tight, back and forth affair. So tight that it took two overtimes to decide it.

In the end, the Frankfort Wildcats won with a score of 62 to 53. Otis-Bison ends the season as the State Championship Runner-ups.

Congratulations guys on a great season.
