Garden City Football versus Great Bend 10-19-18

The Garden City Buffaloes made the familiar trip to Memorial Stadium to face the Great Bend Panthers.

A win would hand the Western Athletic Conference title to the Panthers. A loss would mean just a share of the title along with two other fellow conference schools.

Great Bend quickly let it be known that they wanted the trophy all to themselves. The Panthers scored about three minutes into the game. On the next Garden City snap, Dalton Miller would strip the ball away from the Buffalo and take it in for six more points.

The Great Bend Panthers went on to win the game by a score of 49 to 6.

Garden City Football versus Great Bend 10-21-16

Week Eight brings the regular season to the close for Class 5A and 6A. For the game in Great Bend, the game meant more than just the last of the regular season for the Panthers and their visitors, the Garden City Buffaloes.

Several Senior players would suit up for their last time in a regular season game. Both teams entered the evening with an undefeated record. Add to all of this, the winner takes home the 2016 Western Athletic Conference league championship for football.

In what many saw as a potential high scoring affair, the game actually turned into a defensive battle. Each team would mount a drive only to stall out. They did manage a touchdown each going into the locker room at halftime.

The second half saw another touchdown for each team. After Garden City missed a late field goal, the game went into Overtime.

Garden City took the ball first and scored. Then they stopped Great Bend inches away from the end zone. The Buffaloes won with a score of 21 to 14.

2-1A Regional Meade versus LaCrosse 11-7-14

For the sixth year in a row, the Meade Buffaloes and the LaCrosse Leopards met in the playoffs. Many of those game would decide who would play for the State Championship that year. This year, the meeting came in the very first round of the playoffs.

Both teams squared off and traded drives early on. LaCrosse put up points on the board late in the First Quarter and never looked back. Meade threatened to score a couple of times, but the Leopard Defense kept them away from the end zone. LaCrosse won the game with a 34 to 0 score.

LaCrosse advances to play Ell-Saline in Brookville next Friday night. Meade finishes the season with a 8 and 2 record.

KSHSAA Class 2-1A State Championship: Meade vs Centralia 11-24-12

I thought was over for the year, but an e-mail from Heather Williams of KWCH and CatchItKansas.com extended the season for one more week. They needed someone to shoot photos for the CatchItKansas.com website of the Class 2-1A Championship Game.

This game pitted two recent champions, the Meade Buffaloes (2010) against the Centralia/Wetmore Panthers (2011). Both teams run a very similar single-wing offense.

The First Half belonged to Centralia. They got on the board first and took a 13 to 7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Buffaloes won the Second Half. They took the lead in the Third Quarter, but quickly gave it back to go down by 11. Just when you thought the Panthers would hoist the trophy again, Meade climbed back to within five. The Meade defense held and gave their offense room to get the job done. With about 30 seconds to go in the game, they retook the lead and won the game with a score of 28 to 25.

This was a very entertaining and exciting game and a great way to close out the season.
