The road to the 4A State Baseball Championships ran through Hoisington for the Colby Eagles and the Nickerson Panthers. Both teams met in the Regional Championship game to decide who would play in the State Tournament.

The Eagles and Panthers started the game scoreless for three innings. Then Nickerson collected three runs in the Fourth. By the end of the game, the score was 4-1 in favor of the Panthers.

2012 Kansas State University Purple and White Game

I went to the 2012 Kansas State University Purple and White Game to watch my cousin Kevin Wissman play. It didn’t take me long to go grab my camera and take some pictures from the stands.

It was an interesting game, with the First Team Offense (the Purple Team) racking up 77 points on the day. The White Team only scored on a 95 yard Kick-Off Return. The final scored ended up at 42-42. (They flipped the score at Halftime.)

Sporting KC improves to 5-0-0 and faces a tough home match with Real Salt Lake on April 14th.

1A Division II Boys Championship: Otis-Bison versus Frankfort

The Otis-Bison Cougars faced off against the Frankfort Wildcats for a second time this year at a neutral site. The first time it was in football at Salina. This time it was basketball in Hays for the State Championship.

Like many of Otis-Bison’s recent games, this was a tight, back and forth affair. So tight that it took two overtimes to decide it.

In the end, the Frankfort Wildcats won with a score of 62 to 53. Otis-Bison ends the season as the State Championship Runner-ups.

Congratulations guys on a great season.

1A Division II Semifinals: Otis-Bison versus Hope

For a second year in a row, the Otis-Bison Cougars and Hope Lions squared off for the right to play the KSHSAA Class 1A Division II State title. Last year the Lions prevailed by 18 points.

This year’s tilt was far tighter. Both teams traded baskets and slim one or two point leads for most of the first half.

In the third quarter, Otis-Bison broke the game open with a Trevor Keller lay-up followed immediately by Dylan Wissman stealing the Hope inbound pass and making a lay-up for two more points. From then the Cougars held the lead to finish with a score of 54 to 47.

The Otis-Bison Cougars will now face the Frankfort Wildcats for the State Championship on Saturday.
