My name is Joey Bahr. I was born and raised in Barton County, Kansas and have lived in the state all of my life and I proudly call myself a native of the farming hamlet of Olmitz, Kansas. (Don’t worry if you have never heard of it before.)
In 1996, I graduated from Otis-Bison High School. For college, I attended Kansas State University, initially at the Salina campus majoring in Computer Information Systems then to the Manhattan campus majoring in Political Science with a Minor in Leadership Studies. I received my Bachelor’s in Science from K-State in May 2000.
Starting in January 1999, I began my political career by interning in the Kansas House of Representatives. I ended up interning in the House for two more sessions. After that I worked as a Legislative Assistant for the 2002 Legislative Redistricting and as the House Democratic Caucus Agenda Clerk for the 2003 Session.
In addition to working in the House, I also worked in three campaign cycles: 2000, 2002, and 2004. During this time, I worked on helping to manage state legislative, local, and even a state-wide campaign (2002–for Insurance Commissioner).
After the 2003 Session, I went to work for the Kansas Democratic Party as the Field Director. While my job entailed many duties, my main work was on helping county parties to organize themselves better and to run the 2004 Kansas Democratic Presidential Caucuses.
By the end of the 2004 Election, I decided it was time for me to take a break from politics. I ended up moving back to Central Kansas and I am currently back at my old high school working as a teacher’s aide assisting students with learning disabilities.
Right now I am focusing on keeping the bill collectors at bay and with realizing a dream to be a writer. My writing at this time consists of screenplays. Hopefully soon I will complete a few scripts and see what happens as I enter them into contests and even shop them around Hollywood.
Wish me luck.
